Asheville is growing larger by the day. Every time I visit the downtown area, I feel like I see a new restaurant or shop that wasn’t there before. Believe me, it can be overwhelming. For this very reason, I have made it my mission to scour the Asheville area for those hidden gems that no one seems to know about.
A few nights ago, I was walking around downtown and stumbled upon a place that I had never seen or heard of before called Takosushi. I took a look at the menu and was instantly intrigued. When I got to my table, I asked my waitress how long Takosushi had been at this location. She told me that it had not even been open for a month yet.
The food was a mixture of what they called “far east” and “southwest” food. The far east aspect was all about sushi. There was approximately twenty or so rolls to choose from and every single one sounded delicious. The southwest side of the menu had options such as queso, salsa, and guac, to entrees like nachos, grilled fish, and tacos. I had never thought to eat sushi and tacos all in one meal, but I was down to try it.
As an appetizer, I knew I had to order the salsa and guacamole. I was very pleased but with that said, it’s pretty hard to make a salsa or guac that I don’t like. For my entree, I decided to order from both the far east and southwest side of the menu. I ordered the classic California Roll (one of my favorites), as well as the Tempura fried fish tacos.
I ended up loving everything that I tried and was quite pleased with my overall experience. The food was great, the staff was extremely kind, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The look of the restaurant was a much needed change from the rundown gas station that had once stood in its place. The competition restaurants face in a city like Asheville is fierce to say the least. It is nationally ranked as one of the best travel destinations in the country. With all this said, I have no doubt that this creative and quaint restaurant will become more popular as time goes on.
In future blogs, I plan to focus on places other than restaurants as well as stray from the downtown area so that I can provide as much of a variety as possible. I hope you found this suggestion helpful and that I will see you next month!
