Welcome back to my blog! This week we are going to talk about Tech Week, my favorite and the most stressed week of the whole process. Tech week is the week before show week where we tech the whole show by adding lights, sound, the live band, and all the bells and whistles.
Tech Week for Legally Blonde will be April 16th through the 20th. The first two days we will run Act 1 and Act 2 to review them. Then on Wednesday we will tech Act One, which means we will create light cues based on the scene and the songs going on. Then on Thursday, we will be tech Act Two. Friday we will run the whole show with all the newly created light cues.
What I love about Tech Week is the adrenaline that it gives me. I love running lights, sound, and moving the sets around. This show is the biggest show that I have ever stage managed. Although it can get very stressful, I enjoy watching the show finally come together. I also love getting to work with run crew and the other technicians.
Tech week is the first time that technicians get to work and truly showcase their skills. The first two months are when the actors learn music and blocking. The last month is when technicians come in and start moving the set pieces and running lights and sound from the booth. This year there has been a lot of new freshman technicians who I have never met before.
During this week, I also get to sit upstairs and use the headset system. The headset system is where I have a headset in the booth and the two Assistant Stage Managers. We use this to communicate when set pieces are suppose to go out or if anything were to happen I could know quickly.
Well, as we say, I am going off!
