Hello my sunshines!! It feels like it has been forever! I definitely had a hard time thinking about what I wanted to share with you lovely people today, but I think I finally have it.
To a lot of you, consignment shopping may be foreign, so I thought I would share some main tips that can help you grasp the idea or even get you started!
TIP #1: DON’T JUST BE THE CONSUMER
It’s so easy to shop until we drop, or until our wallets are empty. I recommend that you not only buy from consignment shops, but also bring in clothes, furniture, shoes, etc. to sell yourself!
My family and I are constantly cleaning out our closets and the living room to find the stuff we don’t need or anything that doesn’t fit us.
When you are bringing in your own items to these shops, you are most likely going to get a percentage of the profit if they sell. That profit goes into an account under your name to use when you are shopping there. I have a family of seven so you can try to imagine the amount of things we bring in… the profit does add up!!
Trust me, your wallet will thank you later.
The sale section is honestly the best thing to happen to me. It is FULL of clothing that has been there for WAY too long.
I’m not gonna lie though, this part of the store is NOT full of cute clothing. There is quite a bit of unfavorable pieces, but keep an open mind you can find several gems hidden in there.
There isn’t really much to explain for this tip. Sale section = clothing that was cheap but now it’s even cheaper, what’s not to like about it.
TIP #3: YOU CAN’T REALLY HAVE ANYTHING IN MIND
When you are in a consignment store you can’t really have anything specific in mind. Remember, this isn’t a department store.
Now it’s fine to have things in the back of your mind that you would like to find one day, but you can’t really go searching for them, because you probably won’t find it.
For example, I really want mom jeans, but I don’t want cheap ones or a pair that’s 80 dollars from Urban Outfitters. BUT I have not been intentionally searching them out, I think it would be a waste of time.
TIP #4: NEVER GO ALONE
That just sounds awful, shopping alone. I always have someone with me when I am out consignment shopping, usually my mom.
Having another pair of eyes is always good, because they can spot some really cool things that you might not have seen before. It’s also just super fun and going with friends is great bonding time.
I love going with other people because there are so many good laughs, mostly about some crazy weird clothes that you make each other try on. (I warn you when you go with your mom though, good blackmail comes from that super ugly dress she makes you try on.)
TIP #5: JUST HAVE FUN
In my eyes, it’s an adventure. You are out and about, finding new places, spending time with your girls, and making memories (don’t forget all the amazing finds).
Consignment shopping is exactly this: FUN and FASHION. It isn’t much more. So HAVE FUN, that’s what it’s for.
I hope you enjoyed these tips and tricks of mine! I can’t wait until the next blog!
