If you love French toast and love breakfast like me, then you should venture to Mayfel’s, Another Broken Egg and Sunny Point Cafe for their phenomenal French toast options.
First, I set way for Mayfel’s located in downtown Asheville. It’s in a lovely location close to where the drum circle is held. Although it is a small restaurant, it has an adequate atmosphere and amazing food.
I ordered their French toast, which is made with homemade brioche dipped in Egg-wash, then grilled. It is then topped with crème anglaise and peach or blueberry compote. I went with the peach. The dish was exceptional; the bread was nice and thick and very tasteful, and the compote was also very flavorsome.
Overall, if you’re into some good French toast, I would definitely recommend Mayfel’s.
The next restaurant I went to is Another Broken Egg, which is located in Biltmore Park Town Square. It is a pretty popular restaurant. The atmosphere is very charming, and the restaurant has quite a large selection of food for any breakfast lover.
I ordered the cinnamon roll French toast, which looked absolutely delicious when it arrived at my table. It is made from thick slices of cinnamon roll and grilled with French toast batter, layered with cream cheese icing, bananas foster sauce, mixed berries, and finally, topped with whipped cream.
If you have a big sweet tooth in terms of breakfast food, I would definitely go for this dish. It was exquisite.
The last restaurant I visited was Sunny Point Cafe, which is located on Haywood Road. It also is a pretty small restaurant, and due to its popularity, becomes quite crowded, making it more suitable for small parties. The atmosphere was pleasing and the menu looked very tasteful. It smelled amazing throughout the restaurant.
I ordered the “Plain Jane” French toast. The plate looked very enticing, having an abundance of nicely arranged fruit surrounding the thickly sliced French toast. The toast was made from house-made bread and then dipped in buttermilk and grilled. Real Vermont maple syrup is offered on the side.
It was a pretty standard French toast, but they typically specialize in shrimp and grits, as proved by their award-winning dish.
Overall, for all the French toast enthusiasts out there, if you’re looking for something more sweet, I would definitely recommend Another Broken Egg’s cinnamon roll French toast. For something a little less sweet but very still very tasty, I would go with Mayfel’s.
I found all the restaurants were quite enjoyable and for anyone wanting to start their day off right, I highly suggest all three restaurants.
