Hello, and welcome to my blog. This blog will be about the popular trends that I see and wear everyday, and every blog post will be about a different trend.
Every year, I see new trends become extremely popular, especially among high schoolers. Social media has become a huge part in influencing my generation on what to wear and what is popular clothing-wise. TV shows like “Stranger Things” and “Full House” and even ”. Movies based on the 80s also have a strong influence on what we wear. Of the trends I see, most are based off 80s styles that have become relevant again.
The first trend I’m discussing is: denim! Denim jeans are extremely popular, but they have become a big trend in many different shapes and sizes. For example, we all know and love jean pants, but what about jean skirts, jean jackets and even jean dresses?
History of Denim and Why We Wear It:
Now, I’m not going to bore you on the history of denim, but I will give you a short summary of denim jeans and when they were made. In the early 1870s, Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss invented jeans. Jeans were first made for workers and shortly after became symbols of disobedience. In the 1950s, jeans became popular among teenagers, especially greaser subculture. Jeans remained popular among hippie subculture in the 1960s and continued to make a statement through the 1970 and 80s among youth subcultures of punk rock and heavy metal.
In today’s society, jeans are considered a normal thing to wear; but it wasn’t until 2016 that clothing items and popular millennial brands like Urban Outfitters and TopShop started selling unique denim items like jean skirts, jean dresses and jean jackets.
Because social media and TV have such a tremendous effect on my generation, when popular models and celebrities are spotted on Instagram wearing a specific item of clothing, many people will copy them and try to develop a similar style to their favorite celebrities.
How To Style Everything Denim:
Everyone has their own unique style (I know I do), but sometimes I’ll go on Instagram or even clothing websites to get inspiration for an outfit. Jean jackets were a huge trend in the 1980s and have become a phenomenon in 2017 with teenagers of all ages and genders. Jean jackets are a simple, comfortable way to look cute while not really looking like you are trying too hard. Experiment styling a blue denim jean jacket with a solid or striped shirt underneath with a pair of black jeans. Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 both sell jean jackets in multiple washes.
