Welcome back girlies, it’s been a while! As we are well into our second semester and AP exams are creeping up, I thought it may be appropriate to share with you guys some ideas I found on Pinterest to stay motivated and study more efficiently than I had been doing previously.
One of the most important things about studying is time management. Personally, I know I cannot sit still for more that thirty minutes without zoning out, so what I did was make a plan to study for thirty minutes at a time, and in between do something that eases my brain for a few minutes, such as doing a short chore or getting a snack. This helps to not get frustrated or distracted while trying to study for hours on end.
Another idea that I found to be helpful is to use highlighters while studying. One of my exams was pure memorization, so I printed out the information and highlighted one or two keywords in each statement. Then, instead of trying to remember the entire statement, I only had to remember a few words of each. You can also color code your notes with different pens and highlighters to make them more colorful and to increase organization, since a mess of notes is rarely helpful.
Something else that can keep you on task is listening to audio on the topic. If you can find a YouTube video that correlates to what you’re studying and then take down some important information. Especially for math, Khan Academy is great for going over concepts step-by-step to give you a better understanding.
Studying has also proven to be more efficient for me if I don’t study in my bed. It’s a given that most people sleep in their bed, so studying in your bed will just make you want to sleep. I’ve always found that I study best in a public area, like Starbucks or Panera, because there are less familiar distractions that exist around your house.
And last but certainly not least, practice makes (closer to) perfect! Slowly easing into studying a few days prior to your cram night will make the night before your test much less stressful. If you can use that time to review rather than to study, you’ll be much more prepared the next day!
So those are a few of my tips for more efficient studying. Thanks for reading!
