When people come to Asheville, their usual purpose is to find a place with mountains and a city. The Pisgah National Forest is one of those destinations for a tourist to find. The Pisgah National Forest was claimed as an official national forest in 1916. It was one of the first in the eastern United States. It consists of wildlife and 500,000 acres of trees and beautiful scenes for tourists to come and explore. It also contains whitewater rivers, many waterfalls, and hundreds of miles of trails for people who love to hike. It surrounds the city of Asheville and seems to draw tourists here.
It has the most recreational opportunities in eastern North America. There are 50 things to do there, including hiking the Appalachian Ranger District and the Grandfather Ranger District. There is also horseback riding and of course, camping. Dogs are allowed as well but required to have a leash while on the trails. Adults and kids of all ages are welcomed /by Asheville being one of the to p destinations in the country, that brings people in even more.
Thousands of people visit Pisgah National Forest each year. This is great for tourists but not always as good for the animals that live there. While people love our mountains, some do not cherish them as much as they should. There are groups of people that plan on preserving the forest. The Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education is located there and has many programs involving the care of the wildlife. The center also educates people about the wildlife and the animals that are located throughout the forest.
Yes tourists bring in popularity and money to the city, but not everyone appreciates the views as much as the locals of these mountains do. For us, going to the National Pisgah Forest can be a spontaneous day trip with friends and not a once in a lifetime thing. Therefore, we want to keep doing the spontaneous day trips to waterfalls and go hiking on the weekends. With tourists it may be different. They might not realize that a forest ranger’s job doesn’t only consist of picking up trash if they see any. The animals may get to the trash and other kinds of pollution before they do.
