Many local restaurants in Asheville are known for their own unique food and overall vibe.
One of the most popular and delicious local restaurants recommended by TC students is Post 25 and because I’ve never dined at this establishment, I wanted to sample and review the three most frequently ordered dishes on the menu to answer the question: Would I recommend this place to my friends?
Upon entering Post 25, a friendly hostess stood at the booth and sat me immediately. Plenty of open seats made the restaurant feel empty, but the unique decor and music provided it with a positive atmosphere and feeling for the customers who dine there.
The most ordered appetizer, the Carolina Crickets, was the starting dish. When the dish was placed on the table, I found that the dish did not contain actual “crickets,” but had wrapped jalapenos in bacon and served it with maple syrup on the side. When cutting into it, warm gouda cheese leaked out from cracks between the bacon and pepper. Drizzling some warm syrup over it, I finally took a bite. A title-wave of non-overpowering and nicely blended flavors swept across my palate. At first it tasted sweet and salty from the syrup and bacon, but chewing more, a small amount of spice from the pepper made itself known and complimented the rest of the flavors nicely. It had a very unique, yet delicious taste that I have never found anywhere else before.
After the fabulous appetizer, I was given one of their most-ordered pizzas called the Tiger. It came out on a wooden pizza peel, boosting the presentation and making it look like it came straight out of the oven. It looked like a piece of cheese pizza with some barbecue chicken on it, but when I bit in, I found that there’s more to it than meets the eye. I was surprised to taste sweetness instead of what I thought would be a regular pizza taste. There was only a touch of spice, mostly covered by the more prominent sweet taste of the onions, special sauce, and ranch concealed under the fresh melted mozzarella on top. After tasting it, it became clear to me that the food made in Post 25 mixes a variety of different flavors to please all.
My final and most scrumptious selection was the Grouper Reuben. The presentation of the meal made it all the better. Served with a side of fries in a miniature frying basket, the Grouper Reuben is a delightful sandwich served on two toasted pieces of marble rye bread. Inside rests a thick piece of grouper filet with swiss cheese and coleslaw. At first, I worried that my mouth wouldn’t be able to fit around the sandwich, and it barely did. My first bite was packed with a nice crunch and sweet flavor from the coleslaw. The sandwich did not have an overwhelming fish taste, which I am thankful for.
My overall experience at Post 25 was a new and special one. The food, service, and atmosphere is fabulous, making it a great place to bring your family and friends.
So, back to my original question. Would I recommend Post 25 to a friend? Clearly, the answer is yes. They have regular food items on the menu for picky children which is mixed with more extravagant food for adventurous adults. I encourage you to go with your family or friends and try it yourself.
