Megan Sanders has been named TC Roberson’s Teacher of the Year for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. Sanders is a chemistry teacher and has been teaching at Roberson for 13 years.
Sophomore Evan Anderson feels that Sanders is very deserving of the nomination.
“Mrs. Sanders explains things that help me understand the concepts and whenever I have a question she is very good at helping me through it. Her determination to help us learn more about the subject stands out to me,” Anderson said.
Sanders said she was excited to receive the award and hopes to reflect the high caliber of previous winners.
“I am honored but I am also a little intimidated. I look at other people who have been teacher of the year and I just think they do an amazing job, I admire them and think the world of them. So now I am thinking oh my goodness, am I really qualified to be up there with them?” Sanders said.
At Roberson, the Teacher of the Year is nominated through other teachers who evaluate their peers. The list is then sent to the overall staff to vote on.
When named teacher of the year for a specific school, the recipient is then eligible to put together a portfolio to compete at the district level. They can then go on to compete regionally, at the state level, or even nationally.
