Hey friends! Welcome to another Sew Cool blog where this time I’m teaching you step by step how to make a bodysuit from an old dress.
An old dress
Bathing suit bottoms or an undergarment
Sewing machine or a needle and thread to match the dress
First, you need to try on the dress and pin where you would like the bodysuit to come up to and mark that off with a pin on each side, remember to raise your arms and double check that the body suit does not come above your pants waistband.
Next, you need to grab your best-fitting pair of bathing suit bottoms or a pair of undergarments to get the outline of the bottom part of the suit. Once you find a pair of bottoms, put them over top and line them up with the pins on the dress and pin around them to get the shape.
After you have pinned around the bottoms, you can grab your fabric scissors and start cutting the outline of the bottoms. You may need to straighten this out and even out the sides because it’s really easy to get offline.
Before you start sewing, turn under the raw edges of the dress and pin so you have nice finished edges in the end. Once you are done pinning, you can stitch with ¼ of a inch seam allowance on the edges.
Now it is time to add snaps to the bottom of the bodysuit. Snaps vary from the kinds you use, so make sure to hand sew them in correctly so you can snap them together. You need to put one part of the snap on the inside of the suit and one snap on the outside of the suit to reduce bunching in the crotch area.
Just a little PSA on the fashion show: it is being hosted by Roberson’s FCCLA and Apparel Classes and will take place on March 24. Roberson students, even those not in apparel classes, can join the fashion show for more information about that stop by Ms.Seager’s classroom room 2827.
Thanks for reading my blog, until next time “sew” you later!
