Hi, welcome back! Last time on “Shedding Some Highlight on The Subject,” I talked a lot about some great ways to keep your skin clean and moisturized (affordably), so this week we’re going to change things up and focus on the part that everyone loves… the makeup.
Makeup can honestly be there for you like a best friend, to cover up those two hours of sleep you got last night, help you look your best for that really cute date you have on Friday, or (one of my favorites) have your back in those Instagram photos you’re about to post. #thankyou
One of the best feelings with makeup is finding a product that really brings out the best parts of your features. Products like mascara, highlighter, or eyeshadow can be an easier find because while there are certain colors that accentuate and compliment your skin, they tend to be easier to find than the right concealer or foundation.
You can buy $50 foundation hoping that if the shoe is expensive, it looks good and fits. That’s not always the case! The wrong makeup can make you look orange or “cakey” because it’s not a good fit for your skin. Tip? DO YOUR RESEARCH. If you know your skin type, it makes things much easier when trying to find the right match. In my experience, while I’m looking to try new products, I always like to consult with the women or men at the makeup counters, especially when you’re purchasing or trying a new foundation.
When determining what type of brand you want to use, it’s important to pay attention to the type of undertone your skin has. Some people have more of an orange undertone while others have a more pink or olive tone. This is so important because your foundation needs to be in accordance with this… if not, it can leave you looking orange and cakey… and we don’t want that. If you have an olive skin tone, don’t look at foundations with an orange one!
It’s also important to pay attention to the amount of oil that your skin produces. If your skin is on the more oily side, it might be best to try a foundation with a matte finish, or just a press powder. Always look for “oil free”!
If your skin tends to be more on the dry side, a liquid foundation would be your best bet. Still stay away from products that make your skin feel heavy or add too much oil, because you don’t want to clog up those pores.
Some products I’ve found that I absolutely love are: Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer ($30), Tarte Shape Tape Foundation ($39), and MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation ($39). These can all be purchased at your local Ulta or Sephora.
Okay, so you’ve found the perfect foundation that gives you a flawless glowy look, now you need to finish it off with some setting spray! Setting spray is my life-saver. My makeup needs to last me through eight hours of school everyday, and using a setting spray ensures lasting coverage. One of my favorites is “Chill” a cooling and hydrating setting spray that leaves your skin dewey and refreshed.
Makeup is fun, it makes you feel beautiful and confident. So find the best thing for you! I hope you enjoyed this post and try some of the listed products. It’s so worth it! Come back soon for more beauty tips and tricks! xoxo
