Ah, the month of February is already upon us again and so is a new semester. But, as most high schoolers know that after two weeks of the second semester that only means…..MORE STRESS Yep, studying to our heart’s content until we have drilled it into our brains on what caused the Mexican-American War or the difference between hyperbolas and ellipses, all while trying to stay strong until our next break. In April. . Here are five ways to destress in order to ease back into reality.
Light one of your favorite scented candles in order to create a peaceful environment. The scent will not only appeal to your ‘smell’ buds, but it will help you relax and let your mind unravel, freeing it of all the burdens behind your stress. It will also allow you to remain calm while doing countless hours of homework.
Music, specifically relaxation music that can be found all over YouTube, can induce a very calm state of mind when you listen to it. Music, in general can slow down your breathing and heart rate, as well as in lowering your blood pressure. Relaxation music not only helps you relax, but if you listen to it while studying for tests, your test anxiety will be reduced dramatically.

What better way to destress than journaling? Journaling has many benefits, and now there is constant increasing evidence to support the notion that journaling has a positive effect on the physical well-being. Take a moment to jot down your thoughts, whether it be a recap of your day or things that you are grateful for, and you will experience a feeling of satisfaction.
A good book is all you need to escape reality for a few hours. Snuggle up with a cozy blanket in a quiet area, and be prepared to forget all your hassles as you step into the shoes of Katniss Everdeen, Emma Woodhouse, or whomever’s story it may be. Reading will allow you to destress immediately.
Now I know most people, especially teenagers, don’t want to add any sort of movement at all shoved into an already busy schedule, but going for a quick jog will boost your endorphins and reduce the stress that you will be feeling.
