Often there are days when I wish I could just be a kid again. What a relief it would be to escape the pressures of the world even for 24 hours. I know I am only 17 and still a kid in reality, but there are stressors in the life of a 17 year old, too. If only I could play again like we did in elementary school…
Wait a minute– I did become a kid again this November. I traveled back in time with help of the right scenery, a Disney Cruise! Let me tell you, we played and laughed and enjoyed ourselves without a care for an entire weekend.
At first I will say that I was little skeptical about going on a Disney Cruise. I thought everything would be completely targeted toward the real youngsters. Once I decided to let that go and allow myself to relive my childhood Disney dreams, it was incredible. Activities from dancing with Minnie and Mickey to watching the enthralling shows that were put on in the theatre each night kept rejuvenating the little kid that was suppressed inside of me.
I hopped on this cruise a couple days after the election, which, to say the least, was a crazy one. I will say that I was rather depressed with the results and a bit embarrassed for society at the moment. The time on the cruise, including stops at the Bahama Islands, sanctioned play–exactly what I needed.
Play is refreshing. It is something that we forget about in the busy world. I am urging all of us to remember to take a break with the people we love in times of chaos. Forget the worries even for a couple hours. Watch your favorite childhood film of play a board game. Be a kid again.
I have included a video from the cruise below.
What does God say about being a kid? He says that heaven belongs to those of us who remember to love playing like children can.
Mark 10: 13-14 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
