Hey peeps! I’m back again with a new blog called Vintage Soul. From the booming 1920s to the iconic 1960s, we will travel through all the fashion time periods in history. Today, I wanted to start with the 60s as this was the time many Hollywood stars developed fashion into an art and personally, one of my favorite eras.
“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” star Audrey Hepburn had a timeless style. She opted for simplicity and so she wore basic shirts, skinny pants, and dresses that could still make a statement. We still see this trend today with how H&M has a line called “Basics.” You can never go wrong with a long-sleeved shirt and jeans. Hepburn also made the designer brand, Louis Vuitton, famous among pop culture. Much to Hepburn’s request for a everyday bag, the brand created the iconic “Speedy” for her. The Louis Vuitton Speedy bag continues to be a fashion statement today and is a favorite among many customers.
Movie actress and Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly is remembered for her classiness. Just like Hepburn, Kelly had an iconic bag styled in her honor. The Hermes ‘Kelly’ bag was spotted frequently with Kelly during her pregnancy in order to hide her bump. Christian Dior also created a dress style called the “New Look” to which Kelly frequently wore. The dress style consists of a full circle skirt and fitted bodice. You can still see references to this dress in today’s fashion with circle skirts.
Beauty queen and actress Elizabeth Taylor was a notable style icon. She wore vivid colors such as blue to make bold statements. White diamonds were her favorite gems and so, she was always spotted at formal events with them. In doing this, Taylor made sure that she would always be an eternal fashion icon.
Well that wraps up our trip to the 1960s. Don’t be afraid to incorporate some basic tank tops, circle skirts, or bright colors into your wardrobe now!
